Overview

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) removes stretched abdominal skin after massive weight loss or childbirth. An incision is made from above the pubic bone to the hip bones, the skin-fat flap is elevated, excess tissue is excised, and the separated rectus abdominis muscles are sutured together in the midline (diastasis repair). The navel is repositioned, and the incision is closed for a flatter, tighter abdomen.

Mechanism

A horizontal incision is made above the pubic bone extending to the hip bones. The skin-fat flap is elevated to the costal margin. Excess skin and fat are excised. Separated rectus abdominis muscles are sutured together in the midline (diastasis repair). The navel is repositioned through a new opening. The flap is redraped and closed under tension for a flat contour.
