A non-surgical procedure that slims the calf by reducing calf muscle and/or fat for a sleeker leg line.
Overview
Thick calves can be caused by gastrocnemius (calf muscle) hypertrophy, fat accumulation, or both. Botox is injected into the gastrocnemius to reduce muscle volume, and lipolysis injections are added if fat is the contributing factor. Gradual slimming is achieved through repeated sessions.
Mechanism
Botulinum toxin is injected into the medial and lateral gastrocnemius muscle to block acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction, causing selective muscle atrophy over 4-8 weeks. For fat-related calf thickness, lipolysis agents are injected into subcutaneous fat to promote fat metabolism and cell reduction. The combined approach addresses both muscular and adipose components.
Effects
Reduced calf circumference, slimmer leg contour, improved calf-to-ankle ratio, softened muscular bulge, and more proportionate leg silhouette.
Duration
Botox: 4-6 months per session (3-4 sessions for lasting effect); lipolysis: 4-8 sessions at 1-2 week intervals
Recovery
Minimal downtime. Mild soreness and heaviness in calves for 1-2 days. Walking may feel slightly different initially as muscle relaxes. Avoid intense leg exercise for 1-2 weeks. Normal activities can resume immediately.
Side Effects
Temporary muscle weakness and heaviness in calves, mild bruising at injection sites. Rarely, difficulty with tiptoe standing or stair climbing during initial adaptation. Lipolysis component may cause additional swelling and tenderness.
Price Range
200,000-500,000 KRW per session depending on treatment type
Target Audience
Those with thick calves due to muscle hypertrophy or fat, those seeking slimmer leg lines, and those wanting non-surgical calf reduction.
