Facelift

FaceliftSurgery

A surgery that lifts sagging facial skin and the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer by surgically pulling and securing them upward.

Overview

Facelift surgery incises along the front and behind the ear to dissect, elevate, and secure the SMAS layer, then removes excess skin. It provides the most definitive results for mid-to-lower facial sagging (nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jowls). Performed under general anesthesia, the surgery typically takes 3-5 hours with a recovery period of 2-4 weeks.

Mechanism

The surgeon incises in front of the ear, extending behind it into the hairline. The skin is elevated off the SMAS layer, which is then separately dissected and lifted in a vector opposing gravitational descent. The SMAS is secured with sutures to deeper structures (deep temporal fascia, periosteum). Excess skin is re-draped and trimmed. This dual-layer approach provides both deep structural support and surface smoothing for long-lasting results.

Effects

Significant lifting of sagging mid and lower face, reduction of nasolabial folds and marionette lines, sharpened jawline definition, elimination of jowls, neck contour improvement, and overall facial rejuvenation by 5-15 years.

Duration

5-10 years; aging continues but from a rejuvenated baseline; some patients undergo revision after 7-10 years

Recovery

Significant swelling and bruising for 2-3 weeks. Drain tubes for 1-2 days. Stitches removed at 7-14 days. Numbness and tightness for weeks to months. Return to social activities at 2-3 weeks. Final result at 3-6 months as swelling fully resolves.

Side Effects

Significant swelling, bruising, and numbness. Risk of hematoma (most common serious complication), facial nerve injury (temporary or permanent), skin necrosis, visible scarring, hair loss along incision, ear deformity, and asymmetry. Experienced surgeon selection is critical.

Price Range

8,000,000-20,000,000 KRW

Target Audience

Those with moderate to severe facial sagging, deep nasolabial folds, jowls, loss of jawline definition, and those seeking the most dramatic and long-lasting facial rejuvenation results.
