A surgery that shaves the protruding dorsal hump to create a smooth nasal bridge line.
Overview
Hump nose correction removes the bony and cartilaginous hump on the nasal dorsum using rasps or osteotomes to create a smooth nasal profile. Lateral osteotomy is often performed to narrow the widened nasal bones after hump removal. Frequently combined with nasal tip plasty for comprehensive nasal reshaping.
Mechanism
The dorsal hump consists of an upper bony component and a lower cartilaginous component. The surgeon rasps or cuts the bony hump and trims the cartilaginous hump to the desired profile level. After hump removal, the nasal bones become an open roof (gap), which is closed by performing lateral osteotomies to infracture the nasal bones inward. This narrows the bridge and creates a smooth, continuous dorsal line.
Effects
Elimination of dorsal hump, smooth and straight nasal profile, narrower nasal bridge, improved facial harmony, and correction of the hooked or convex nose appearance.
Duration
Permanent; bone and cartilage do not regrow once properly removed
Recovery
Nasal splint and cast for 7-10 days. Periorbital bruising (raccoon eyes) for 1-2 weeks due to osteotomy. Significant swelling for 2 weeks. Final result at 6-12 months as swelling fully resolves. Avoid contact sports for 2-3 months.
Side Effects
Temporary swelling, bruising (significant with osteotomy), nasal congestion, and numbness. Risk of irregularity, asymmetry, over- or under-correction, open roof deformity if osteotomy is insufficient, and pollybeak deformity (fullness above the tip).
Price Range
3,000,000-6,000,000 KRW
Target Audience
Those with a dorsal hump (bump on the nose bridge), hooked nose appearance, and those seeking a smoother, straighter nasal profile.
