Overview

Mini facelift uses a limited incision in front of the ear only to perform a focused SMAS elevation. It is suitable for early to moderate facial sagging and offers shorter downtime (1-2 weeks) compared to a full facelift. It can be performed under general or sedation anesthesia, but the effect range is more limited than a full facelift.

Mechanism

A shorter incision is made in front of the ear (sometimes extending slightly into the sideburn area). The SMAS is elevated and tightened over a limited area targeting the jowl and mid-face region. Excess skin is trimmed and closed. The reduced dissection area means less disruption to tissues, faster healing, and lower risk of complications, but also limits the degree of correction achievable compared to a full SMAS facelift.

Effects

Moderate improvement of jowls, mild nasolabial fold reduction, improved jawline definition, facial tightening, and refreshed appearance with less dramatic change than a full facelift.

3-5 years; shorter longevity than full facelift due to limited SMAS work

Recovery

Swelling and bruising for 1-2 weeks (less than full facelift). Stitches removed at 5-7 days. Mild numbness and tightness for 2-4 weeks. Return to work at 5-7 days. Final result at 1-2 months.

Side Effects

Similar but lesser risks than full facelift: swelling, bruising, numbness, hematoma, infection, scarring. Limited correction for severe sagging. May require progression to full facelift in the future.
