A surgery that corrects sagging skin, fat, and platysma muscle of the neck to improve the jawline and neck contour.
Overview
Neck lift surgery approaches through submental (under-chin) and post-auricular (behind-ear) incisions to perform platysma muscle plication (corset platysmaplasty), fat removal, and skin excision. Often combined with facelift surgery, it addresses platysmal bands, neck fat, and turkey neck for a defined cervicomental angle.
Mechanism
Through a submental incision, the surgeon removes excess submental fat (liposuction or direct excision), then plicates the platysma muscle edges together in the midline (corset technique) to create a tight muscular sling. Through post-auricular incisions, excess neck skin is pulled laterally and posteriorly, trimmed, and closed. This addresses all three layers contributing to neck aging: fat, muscle laxity, and skin redundancy.
Effects
Defined cervicomental angle, elimination of turkey neck and platysmal bands, reduced submental fat, tighter neck skin, sharper jawline from neck-to-jaw transition, and overall neck rejuvenation.
Duration
5-10 years; similar longevity to facelift results
Recovery
Compression garment for 1-2 weeks. Swelling and bruising for 2-3 weeks. Drain tubes for 1-2 days. Neck tightness and numbness for weeks. Limited neck movement for 1-2 weeks. Return to work at 2 weeks. Final result at 2-3 months.
Side Effects
Swelling, bruising, neck tightness, and numbness. Risk of hematoma, infection, visible scarring (behind ears), nerve injury (marginal mandibular, great auricular), skin irregularity, and asymmetry. Combined with facelift, risks are additive.
Price Range
5,000,000-10,000,000 KRW (often combined with facelift)
Target Audience
Those with neck sagging, platysmal bands (turkey neck), excess submental fat, blunted cervicomental angle, and those seeking a defined neck and jawline contour.
