Overview
Orthognathic surgery treats skeletal malocclusion (prognathism, retrognathia, facial asymmetry, open bite) by performing Le Fort I osteotomy (maxilla) and sagittal split ramus osteotomy (SSRO) or intraoral vertical ramus osteotomy (IVRO) of the mandible. Mechanism
Orthognathic surgery repositions the upper jaw (Le Fort I osteotomy), lower jaw (bilateral sagittal split osteotomy), or both (two-jaw surgery) to correct skeletal malocclusion. 3D CT planning and surgical guides ensure precise bone movement. Titanium plates and screws fix bones in the new position. Often combined with pre- and post-operative orthodontics.
