Zygoma Reduction

Zygoma ReductionSurgery

A surgery that reduces protruding cheekbones by performing osteotomy and repositioning them inward.

Overview

Zygoma reduction osteotomizes the protruding zygomatic bone in an L-shaped pattern and repositions it inward. Accessed through intraoral incisions and small preauricular incisions, external scarring is minimized. It creates a smaller-looking face with a softer impression.

Mechanism

The surgeon performs L-shaped osteotomy of the zygomatic arch and body: the anterior cut is made through an intraoral approach, and the posterior cut through a small incision in front of the ear. The freed bone segment is pushed inward and fixed with titanium plates and screws. The degree of inward movement determines the amount of cheekbone reduction. Care is taken to avoid injury to the facial nerve branches running near the zygomatic arch.

Effects

Reduced cheekbone prominence, smaller and softer facial appearance, improved facial proportions, smoother facial contour, and more feminine or gentle impression.

Duration

Permanent; bone healing and fixation complete at 2-3 months

Recovery

Significant swelling for 2-4 weeks (peaks at 3-5 days). Bruising extends to lower face and neck. Soft diet for 2 weeks (intraoral incision). Numbness in cheek area for weeks to months. Return to social activities at 2-3 weeks. Final result at 3-6 months.

Side Effects

Significant swelling and bruising. Temporary or prolonged cheek numbness (infraorbital nerve). Risk of asymmetry, sagging of soft tissue (cheek drooping), facial nerve injury (rare, causing movement issues), non-union, plate palpability, and infection.

Price Range

4,000,000-8,000,000 KRW

Target Audience

Those with prominent or protruding cheekbones, those seeking a smaller facial contour, and those wanting a softer, less angular facial appearance.
