Nd:YAG Laser

Overview

The Nd:YAG laser uses two wavelengths - 1064nm (for deep dermal pigment) and 532nm (for superficial epidermal pigment) - to treat pigmented lesions at various depths. Used for melasma, nevus of Ota, tattoo removal, and spots, it serves as the foundational device for laser toning. Mechanism

The 1064nm wavelength penetrates deeply into the dermis where it is selectively absorbed by melanin, enabling treatment of deep pigmentation such as dermal melasma and nevus of Ota. The 532nm wavelength is absorbed by superficial melanin for treating epidermal lesions like freckles and sunspots. In Q-switched mode, nanosecond pulses deliver high peak energy to fragment pigment particles; in long-pulse mode, sustained heating treats vascular lesions and performs hair removal.
