Thread Lifting

Thread LiftingTreatment

A lifting procedure that inserts biodegradable threads (PDO, PCL, PLLA) under the skin to physically lift sagging tissue and stimulate collagen production.

Overview

Thread lifting is a procedure that inserts biodegradable threads into the subcutaneous tissue using fine cannulas. The barbs (cogs) on the threads physically grip and lift the tissue for immediate lifting, while the thread degradation process stimulates collagen production for sustained tightening. Thread types include PDO (polydioxanone), PCL (polycaprolactone), and PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid), available in mono, cog, and screw configurations.

Mechanism

Absorbable threads with barbs or cogs are inserted into the subcutaneous layer using cannulas or needles. The barbs anchor into tissue to provide immediate mechanical lifting. Over months, the threads trigger a foreign body response that promotes collagen and elastin synthesis around the thread. Even after the thread is fully absorbed (6-24 months depending on material), the collagen framework provides continued support.

Effects

Immediate facial lifting and contouring, jawline definition, nasolabial fold reduction, mid-face lifting, improved skin firmness through collagen stimulation, and gradual skin quality improvement.

Duration

1-2 years (PDO 6-12 months, PLLA/PCL 12-24 months)

Recovery

Mild swelling and bruising for 3-7 days. Avoid wide mouth opening, facial massage, and sleeping face-down for 2-4 weeks. Most patients return to normal activities within 2-3 days. Full results visible after 1-2 months.

Side Effects

Temporary swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Possible thread palpability, dimpling, or asymmetry. Rare risks include infection, thread migration, or nerve injury. Results are highly operator-dependent.

Price Range

300,000-2,000,000 KRW depending on thread type and number

Target Audience

Those with mild to moderate facial sagging, loss of jawline definition, jowl formation, and those seeking a non-surgical alternative to facelift surgery.
