IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)Treatment

A broad-spectrum light therapy that simultaneously improves pigmentation, vascular issues, and skin texture using intense pulsed light energy.

Overview

IPL uses broad-spectrum light (500-1200nm) delivered through selective filters, unlike single-wavelength lasers. It acts on both melanin and hemoglobin simultaneously, treating spots, freckles, redness, broken capillaries, and pores in a single session. As a versatile, low-downtime treatment, it is one of the most popular maintenance procedures in dermatology clinics.

Mechanism

Broad-spectrum light is filtered to select wavelength ranges that target specific chromophores. Melanin absorbs shorter wavelengths for pigment treatment, while hemoglobin absorbs longer wavelengths for vascular lesion treatment. The absorbed light energy converts to heat, selectively damaging pigmented cells and abnormal blood vessels while sparing surrounding tissue. Multiple passes with different filters can address various concerns in one session.

Effects

Reduction of spots, freckles, and sunspots; improvement of facial redness and broken capillaries; skin tone brightening; pore refinement; mild collagen stimulation; and overall complexion improvement.

Duration

3-5 sessions at 3-4 week intervals; maintenance every 2-3 months recommended for sustained results

Recovery

Minimal downtime. Treated pigmented spots darken and flake off over 5-7 days. Mild redness for a few hours. Makeup possible immediately. Sun protection essential. Avoid intense heat for 2-3 days.

Side Effects

Temporary darkening of pigmented spots, mild redness and warmth, occasional mild swelling. Risk of burns or blistering with improper settings. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation possible in darker skin tones. Not recommended during active tanning.

Price Range

100,000-300,000 KRW per session
